Studio Hamburg / Studio Berlin and WIGE Media AG produced 'Lang Lang: The Third Dimension' - a piano concert in Live-3D and cinema quality. WIGE was responsible for the technical concept on behalf of Sony / ContextTV and Jens Wolf, Senior Manager Innovation & Technology as the Head of technical department on set.

With the help of flexible 3D-recordings in real time, WIGE created with its innovative technology and special trained stereoscopic staff a high quality 3D-experience.

During the ‘Internationale Funkausstellung’ (IFA, 3.-8.th of September 2010) in Berlin, the visitors got to see a world premier: the cutting-edge 3D-film of the popular Chinese pianist Lang Lang was presented to the public for the first time.

In this film the pianist interprets world known artists on his grand piano: Beethoven, Prokofiev, Chopin und Albéniz. The one-of-a-kind concert was set in the cultic Club ‘Berghain’ in Berlin. In order of Sony Music, Context TV and EuroArts Music International in cooperation with Studio Berlin produced this complex production. Along the way WIGE Media AG was in charge of the whole production management. Furthermore did they provide a stereoscopic supervisor who coordinated and controlled the complete digital workflow of the 40minutes lasting concert film.

“To create a perfect 3D-experience for the audience, it is not sufficient anymore just to put two cameras together. The production process is much more complex and demands adequate professional Know-how.” Says Tobias Vees, chief representative of technology and development at WIGE Media AG. “That WIGE is able to produce 3D in cinema quality has been proofed already. We attended a shoot with oscar-winning director Peter Jackson for example. But Live-3D is even more complex: when unexpected things happen in front of the camera, flexible reactions in real time are in demand.”

WIGE-Mini-HD-Camera CUNIMA MCU[2] and HD1 in action

If you didn’t have the chance to see it at the IFA in Berlin, you have the opportunity to buy the Blu-ray „Lang Lang: Live in Vienna“ with its 3D-feature. During the production there were used 3D-rigs from Stereotec, technology  from 3ality and the new, revolutionary Mini-HD-Camera CUNIMA MCU[2] from WIGE. This camera delivers with its very compact size (182g, 33,5x38x111,5mm) images at the technologically highest stage. Thus CUNIMA MCU[2] brings ideal preconditions for stereoscopic recordings.

For the treatment of the signals, there was the fully digital broadcast van HD1 positioned at the 3D-concert production in Berlin. The Highend-Flagship possesses one of the biggest mobile audio console ever built into a van and is – equipped with cutting-edge technologies and with up to 24 cameras – one of the biggest and most modern HDTV-broadcast vans worldwide.
